Uses For Keyrings

Posted by Chain Direct on 1st Jul 2021

Keyrings are a common household item that we have all used many styles and types of, for a wide range of uses.

Long before keyrings were used for holding keys, they started life as a way of tying tokens together in ancient cultures.

Today, keyrings are one of the most common gift and souvenir products and often used as a means of advertising a company or brand.

The element that forms the main part of the keyring, is a split ring that can be threaded onto keys and other small items to attach them to a chain, tag or other accessory.

These split rings are made from a single piece of metal formed to make a double loop. Either end of the loop can be pried open to allow a key or object to be inserted and slid along the spiral until it becomes wholly engaged onto the ring.

This type of keyring design can also be used for a wide range of arts and craft work, whether it be as a means of connecting objects together, or to make the ring itself the main focus of the design.

At Chain Direct, we have a big range of plain metal keyrings in a variety of sizes, from 12mm up to 38mm. These are available in either stainless steel or silver nickel.

Many people source these from use to make their own custom keychains to sell online or at markets.

We have also had many people put them to other uses, like the EVER SUN display by Sydney Artist Rochelle Haley, which is a suspended installation of beaded veils that was designed to create a sensitive play of light that changes constantly throughout the day.

Rochelle used our key rings to join the beads creating this beautiful hanging display.
